Scotland is a famous tourist destination for Indonesians. There are many flights to Scotland from the popular Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Surabaya. The duration of the flight depends on the city from which you are starting to the destination city in Scotland. It is also dependant on whether there are direct flights or you will have to hop on to multiple flights. From the Indonesian capital city, Jakarta, to the Scotland capital Edinburgh, the average flight duration, depending on the Scotland flight deal, is between 21h 35m and 30h 50m. From Deakarno International Airport, Jakarta, to Glasgow International Airport, Glasgow, the flight duration ranges between 22h and 34h 30m. Flights to Edinburgh Airport from Juanda Airport, Surabaya, take anywhere between 26h and 36h 45m. There are airlines that fly from Surabaya to Glasgow in about 34h.
Unfortunately, there are no direct flights to Scotland from Indonesian cities. Based on the location you are starting from, you will have one to three stops. Cheap flights to Scotland are also available but with multiple stops. If you are travelling from Jakarta, Qatar Airways offers flights that can reach Edinburgh with just one stop at the Doha Hamad International airport, from where you can catch a direct flight to Edinburgh. However, from Jakarta to Glasgow there is a minimum of two stops. The same is the case when travelling from Surabaya to Edinburgh and Glasgow. Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, British Airlines, Indonesia Air Asia, and Garuda Indonesia are some of the airlines with flights.
The public transport in Scotland is good and there are many bus and train services that make travel easy. There is a good network of trains and buses, which connects you to famous cities and towns. If you are looking for economic options to travel, train rides and quick and cheap - not to mention you will enjoy the scenery of the rugged terrain. ScotRail runs many trains across cities. You can catch a ScotRail train run from Glasgow Central to Edinburgh station. There are also trains to Stirling, Dundee, Inverness, and other major cities. Tickets can be booked in advance at most stations or brought in trains. Though the trains are fast and frequent, it is better to travel by car, airplane or by ferry to reach the islands or remote areas of Scotland. Buses are popular and affordable. Edinburgh to Glasgow is just an hour’s journey and Glasgow to Inverness is three hours. Renting a car or a 4x4 vehicle could also help you save time.
Scotland is a place with rugged highlands and beautiful castles. If you are in Edinburgh visit Edinburgh Castle, which is on the top of a hill; or the Royal Mile, a medieval succession of streets that lead to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, which is one of the Queen’s official residences. The Royal Mile is known for its street performances and souvenir shops. The brave can also visit the Greyfriars Cemetery, which is believed to be haunted; it has a mystical atmosphere which is beautiful. Visiting Scotland is incomplete without going to Glasgow. There are interesting things to see and do like the Riverside Museum, strolling around the Clyde River, shopping on Buchanan Street, drinking on Ashton Lane, walking through the Necropolis, and more.
Indonesian tourists must have a visa when travelling to Scotland. A standard visitor visa should be obtained before travel to the country. You can get visa approximately in three weeks’ time and may cost you Rp 304,325. The passport of the individual applying for a visa should have at least six months of validity.
