The best time to visit Bullhead is from April to June or September to October when the weather is warm to hot. The peak summer season runs from July to August but temperatures frequently exceed 40 degrees Celsius and prices will be higher as this coincides with the local school holidays. The local winter months from November to March are still fairly mild and significant savings can be made during this time. Local festivities include the annual River Regatta in August and the Bluegrass Festival in February. Both of these celebrations will see an increase in the price of accommodation.
Bullhead City sits on the edge of the Colorado River enjoying easy access to the rest of Arizona State as well as Nevada and California. The city is a pleasure land for outdoor sports enthusiasts and those who want to be able to access the nearby casinos.
Water sports are very popular in Bullhead City where residents and visitors alike can enjoy the blue waters of the Colorado River which marks the boundary between Nevada and Arizona. A particularly popular spot for water sports is at Lake Mojave where jet skiing, sailing, sports fishing, rafting and scuba diving are commonplace. Outdoor living is central to the way of life in Bullhead, a city that boasts a large area of green spaces in comparison to the size of its population. These include the vast Rotary Park, located on the banks of the Colorado River with river beaches where visitors can enjoy barbecues under shaded areas and a large amount of sporting and play equipment. One of the town’s major attractions is the Colorado River Museum which explores the history of the Native American Mojave people and the settlement of Bullhead as a gold mining town.
Golf is a very popular pastime in Bullhead City and there are a number of championship golf courses in the vicinity. Located less than a mile from the Nevadan border visitors to Bullhead can easily access the many casinos located just over the Colorado River. The closest are in Laughlin just a few miles north although the bright lights of Las Vegas are only an hour and a half’s drive away.
The Californian border is just 14 miles (22.5 km) from central Bullhead. Some of the nearest attractions in California include the Mojave Reserve which can be reached in two hours or the Death Valley National Park, the hottest place in the USA. Los Angeles can be reached in just 1.5 hours by plane although driving enthusiasts can take the historic Route 66 in just over four hours.
Bullhead has a fixed transit bus system which operates across three routes. Passengers pay the driver when they board the bus and exact payment is required. Alternatively the city offers a number of taxi services. The actual city proper is fairly small in size and most of the main shops and facilities can be explored on foot.
Laughlin/Bullhead City International Airport is just 3 mile (5 km) from the city centre. The easiest way to get into the city centre is by taxi, although a number of car rental agencies are also located at the airport.
