Port Louis offers tourists idyllic weather due to its tropical maritime climate. The weather is warm and sunny all year round although the city is kept cool by the sea breezes.
The months of November to April, see the highest temperatures, on average in the 20s to mid-30s (Celsius) and also experience the most rainfall. This combined with high humidity, from January to March, and cyclone risk in the Indian Ocean, can be a turn off for most travellers. The horse racing track is a great day visit for those who love the sport. The old windmill in the city is a quaint landmark which provides travellers with a sense of the old way of life in the area. The Caudan waterfront is a great place to enjoy some of the good food served in the area with a beautiful sea view.
Once in the city you can explore on foot, rent a bicycle or use your rental car, bus or taxi to get around.
Flights to Port Louis arrive at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU). It is located about 48 km (29 miles) from the city centre. Taxis, city buses, shuttle buses and rental cars provide transport from the airport into the city.
